German Islamists convicted over bomb plot
4th March 2010

Four Islamists have been convicted by a court in Germany of plotting to attack US facilities in the country.

The men, two of whom were German-born converts to Islam, were given prison sentences of between five and 12 years.

The judge said they had dreamed of "mounting a second September 11 2001" by killing US civilians and soldiers by bombing targets like Ramstein Air Base.

Islamic scholar Tahir ul-Qadri issues terrorism fatwa

An influential Muslim scholar has issued a global ruling against terrorism and suicide bombing.

Dr Tahir ul-Qadri, from Pakistan, says his 600-page judgement, known as a fatwa, completely dismantles al-Qaeda's violent ideology.

The scholar describes al-Qaeda as an "old evil with a new name" that has not been sufficiently challenged.

Man charged over Robin Hood Airport bomb Twitter threat
18th February 2010

A man who allegedly posted an airport bomb threat on micro-blogging website Twitter has been charged with sending a menacing message, police said.

Paul Chambers, 26, of Byram Court in Balby, Doncaster, was reportedly due to fly from Robin Hood Airport in January.

He was arrested on suspicion of communicating a bomb hoax after a post on the website about blowing up the airport was reported to police.

Possible Major Security Breach at JFK - Stowaway Found in Wheel Well
8th February 2010

A mechanic at Tokyo's Narita airport found the dead body of an apparent stowaway in the wheel well of a Delta Air Lines 777 that had recently arrived from New York's JFK airport.

According to CNN, Delta Flight 59 had departed JFK at about 12:53 pm on Saturday February 6th, and arrived in Tokyo at 4:46 pm local time on Sunday. According to the Mainichi Daily News, the body was found about 80 minutes after the airplane landed. There was no identification on the body, and Japanese authorities are trying to identify him. The body reportedly had no visible injuries except for signs of frostbite.

Fears of new attack as bin Laden reclaims front line of global jihad
25th January 2010

Osama bin Laden claimed responsibility yesterday for the failed Christmas Day aircraft bombing above Detroit and vowed further attacks on American citizens.

In a minute-long audiotape purportedly made by the al-Qaeda leader, bin Laden raised fears that a follow-up attack was already in the works.

The taped message, “from Osama to Obama”, was broadcast on al-Jazeera television as new details emerged of the botched Christmas Day attempt by the “underwear bomber” Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, which has already been claimed by al-Qaeda’s affiliate on the Arabian peninsula.
