Redline Aviation Security are located within, and integral to, the National Security Training Centre (NSTC) at Robin Hood Airport, Doncaster. Our training facilities are second to none and encompass all aspects of an airport's security function from check-in through to departure. The NSTC is a training centre with a world-wide customer base, providing a dedicat
ed aviation security training facility and with the capability to deliver a standardised, high quality and accountable training service.
State of the art furnishings and the latest media and projection devices are installed to offer the best possible learning experience and scenario-led exercises and assessments. Two fully sound proofed training rooms are fitted with hi-tech desks and individual computers for each student. Each student has individual access to training materials, security reference documents and the internet.
The training halls have been equipped by Smiths Detection UK to include Advanced Cabin Baggage X-ray (ACBX) and the very latest security scanner. The NSTC training halls include a mocked up terminal which can accurately replicate the passenger's journey through the security process; from checking in hold baggage through two full security lanes and onwards to an aircraft. The equipment available to trainees includes EU Standard 2 Advanced Walk Through Metal Detectors, Smiths aTix 6040 ACBX, Explosive Trace Detection (ETD) an
d Explosive Vapour Detection Equipment (VADE).
These aspects of procedural security are augmented by displays of physical security provided by Citadel Security which includes examples of security fencing, security lighting and CCTV. The CCTV has training stations linked to advanced cameras situated around the facility.
The facility is both high-tech and up-to-date, thereby allowing the trainees to experience not only the real equipment at work, but how this equipment should be used to best effect against real threats. By training this way, the trainees are exposed to the difficulties they face in reality, on the job and against a determined enemy who is constantly looking for ways to exploit security systems, equipment and procedures to make good their intentions.
Practical exercises and role-play scenarios are conducted throughout training and the training areas are fitted with 'role play' camera systems allowing the students the opportunity to be self critical whilst allowing others the chance to view and monitor security situations as they occur.
This aspect of the training is where the fundamental difference in end-state occurs. The ability to actually experience a situation and allow it to develop, safely, to a conclusion that assesses the trainee's ability to recognise, act and contain a threat situation is fundamental.
The location makes this centre of excellence easily accessible by air, road and rail. Robin Hood airport is well signposted from all major routes and regular bus services connect the airport to the main line railway station in Doncaster. Tied into the location is The Ramada Encore, a 102-bedroom hotel. The Ramada is less than a minute's walk from the NSTC and contains all the life support requirements for a course up to 14 working days in duration.
The benefits of the NSTC are immeasurable against current training standards and methodology. Access to equipment, training scenarios and professionally trained, vocationally qualified instructors raise the overall standard of training available to unparalleled levels. The tangible benefits are the ability to demonstrate a duty of care to the security industry by offering access to exceptional training facilities and trainers, thereby addressing the most important issue of making UK and international airports and air travel even safer.
