Course Overview

This course provides an introduction to behaviour detection and the important role everyone can play in becoming aware of potential threats and the appropriate response and escalation of them. From understanding what a threat can be to knowing the legal considerations for behaviour detection, this course will also explore Martyn’s Law, including its implementation and effect.

Course Content 

Introduction to Behaviour Detection:

  • How the implementation of Behaviour Detection Officers (BDOs) has changed due to recent threats.
  • Legal considerations for behaviour detection.
  • Concept of baselines.

Threat:

  • The meaning of threat.
  • The levels of threat that may pose a significant risk.
  • Recent threats.
  • UK current national threat level.
  • UK's counter-terrorism strategy.

Martyn's Law:

  • The background and implementation of Martyn's Law and who may be affected. 

 

Course Format

This course is delivered through a combination of presentations, group exercises, discussions and practical exercises.
